Massage and Bodywork Techniques and Modalities

You are here: Home / Massage and Bodywork Techniques and Modalities

As you can see from the following list, there are many different types and styles of massage and bodywork techniques, including energy healing.

Many massage therapists have taken workshops or studied a variety of techniques, and tend to incorporate bits and pieces of each into their own unique massage style.

So rather than ask a massage therapist, “What type of massage do you do?”, it’s generally better to ask for the type of massage that you are looking for.

If you are looking for a specific technique, ask if the massage therapist can give that type of massage. For example, “Do you do Trager work?”, “Do you do Esalen Massage?”, or “Do you do Structural Relief Therapy?”. The same goes for any specific type of energy healing that you might be seeking.

If you are looking for stress relief and relaxation, let your massage therapist know that. If you are looking for treatment for a specific injury, ask about that. It is much easier for massage therapists to see if we can meet your needs, if we know what those needs are!

Styles of massage and bodywork

The following list of massage, bodywork, and energy healing techniques and styles will be expanded upon as time allows. As I put information up on each style, I will create a link to a separate page where you can read more about it.
